Mantis is a collection of sound-sketches around the story of Lupoluna.
Lupoluna is a beautiful child with black hair, moon skin and red rose lips who has been transformed into a mantis.
She doesn’t remember herself anymore.
She doesn’t remember her name.
The mantis is supposed to marry another mantis.
Insects from the forest are ready to celebrate the event in wide procession.
The mantis Lupoluna reaches the ocean’s cliff in order to marry down the sea, together with her lover. But as soon as she is going to jump she realises that she is just alone with the ghost of herself. Mantis has been written in 2004 at IoIoI’s childhood room in Macerata, Italy.
All tracks are made of single takes - without any sessions or preview structures - and improvised melodies.
Lo-fi sounds, mistakes, abrupt noises that occurred though the recording are meaningful to the world she is expressing, as a casual necessity of those places.
Why her soul found a comfortable expression by such eastern sounds to release her most intimate side is a mystery yet.
